I not on facebook, although my wife is. My question is for those employed....do you have a LinkedIn account to foster business/networking relationships?

Hello Tom (my little brother look alike, lol)! My husband uses Linkedin. It was a great resource to connect him with others during the year he was out of work
A friend of mine invited me to join via e-mail but I don't really get how it works so I left it alone. I could use it now that I'm only at one job working maybe 10 hours a week if I'm lucky. Anywho..I'm curious how it all works too!

Hello my fellow Fort Mill Resident that thinks I look like her little brother!
I do. I've made some contacts there, but for the most part, the LinkedIn "friending" comes after actually working together, and not the other way around.
My "relationship" issue with respect to it comes up when professional contacts from LinkedIn want to friend me on Facebook. It's a test of diplomacy to keep the two separate.
Use it for your professional contacts, be careful who you add. Use the discussion groups to establish your expertise, and make contacts outside your immediate network, this is better for getting new opportunities. Carefully add recommendations from folks you have worked with. Do it gradually so it doesn't look like your are desperately looking for a new job.
Yes, I use it. I haven't really networked on it in a while but in the past I have wrote recommendations for people. I like being able to see where previous coworkers work at now as well as keep up with their professional successes. Most of these people are on my Facebook too but that platform is more for friends and "fun". Meanwhile, LinkedIn is more for business and networking.
I don't use it (I don't work in a business-centered field, though, I work in education...it's not as frequently used in my circles). My boyfriend, who works a more typically corporate job uses it, particularly since he eschews facebook. He notices that fewer of his contacts use it regularly, though...he's more likely to be able to network with them on facebook.
I use it, but more for intelligence than for networking. If I have an appointment, I look them up.
