I don't think it should be because it's simply describing a couple of mixed race and I don't see it as being derogatory. The Census Bureau also tracks every sort of data you can think of including interracial marriages. I think eventually it will become obsolete though because at least in America individuals who are of mixed race will be such a large percentage of the population that it would seem pointless to keep track of it. Latin America already has far more racially mixed individuals than we do and it just becomes something that people don't even pay attention to because it's so common.
The question makes no sense to me. Not sure what your point is. If someone wants to discuss the interracial aspects of a relationship, then how the hell else are you going to describe it?
If your point is, can everyone just ignore race and have relationships that don't take race into account, that ain't gonna happen either pal. Racial differences exist. Some of us are attracted to certain races. Some find others unappealing. That's just human.
As long as 'race' itself remains a phenomenon, 'interracial' relationships will continue to be set apart from same-race relationships. Unfortunately, like the terminal illness that it is, once the concept of race has been introduced into the American psyche, it was pretty much destined to be here to stay.
