Love With humanlike robots (date, woman, single, young)

Hi, I'm new here. My name is Walt and I'm a typical liberal 20 something college student living in a dorm at a big US university and I guess you could say that I'm Bored At The Dorm. Anyway I was reading here, this looks like a nice forum so I think I'll stay.
My question is, I was reading a book in which the author foresees Human-Lifelike Robot relationships by 2050 and I wanted to know how others here saw that, what your opinion of such a thing was.

I'm hoping for only serious replies, thank you.

Interesting topic. I think it sounds creepy but then again I once thought I would never get used to watching DVR instead of "live" TV.

Who knows how the human mind will adapt to technology. So far we have embraced all of it without exception and can't conceive of what life was like before wifi and cellphones...

There's a young lad round here called city-data91 - your concept sounds like the perfect solution to his problem (which is basically that he wants a sexless relationship because he doesn't want to take any chances of making a baby). He might be more confident of that with a robot woman than with a human woman. Hopefully, he'll find this thread in the next day or so and give you his insights.

HHHMMMMM A life-like robot that will have sex when you want, how you want, that has a mute button. Any way they could up that date to say.......tomorrow?

It would be like anything else, works great but I wish it were better. People are never content, thats why we keep trying to make things better/new and improved.

I think it is pretty much inevitable at some point (2050 may be too soon.. or too late, who knows?). The human desire for a sex slave is strong and the technology is close, so I think we'll get there. However, I think it will contribute to the further coarsening of our culture. I'm against it.

If a man is willing to have sex with his hand, a blowup doll, a jar filed with cotton and water, a pie, a goat, a hole in the wall, I don't see why they wouldn't at least give the robot a try.

2050 is too soon, won't happen that quick. I came across a book recently dated in the 1960's and it predicted things that would happen by 2010. Most of them havn't happened. Flying cars, I wish.

Or are you talking about one that just moves around more than, say, a Real Doll?

I'd say that's probably not too far away, actually.

It will eventually happen but when ? Who knows.. Japan has already made strides though in lifelike "dolls" for single men.... I'm sure I've seen them that do talk but they are programmed for very little interaction... Meh, if I were a man, that just wouldn't do it for me.
