You might try reminding them that those people are not real, and none of the stuff on television is REALLY happening, and then look at them in a way that demonstrates that you are concerned for their mental health.

I have never seen the show, personally, but what I have read it does not sound like the kind of life I would be proud to emulate.

They are referring to sexual maturity. Let me tell you, many, many women get to 40 and are not mature yet. Guys don't have that luxury because those who mess up end up living in cardboard boxes under bridges.

Society is very forgiving to women and the majority of men, who the women who have it together aren't interested in, are constantly being pressured to support one of these immature women.
