I think the real reason women don't like going out has nothing to do with the noise. I think women in certain cities associate bars/clubs(and the men in them) with sleaze.
Of course there are bars (now I'm sorry every club I have ever been too is loud isn't that the point?) that aren't loud but thats not where I see men in their 20's hanging out. I'm in NY so outdoor space isn't as common plus the weather...

There has been any posts on this board that the club/bar scene is not the place to meet people for a relationship. I look at my friends/family who have significant others and they didn't meet them in a bar so I don't really feel I am missing out. I've been able to meet men in other ways.

OK assuming this is correct (I dispute parts of the demographics in the NE corner of Tenn bordering on VA, NC and/or Kentucky; according to 2010 Census data I researched for hours recently most if not all all the towns in that region claim to have more women than men, but let's let that pass for the moment), why do you think there are more women than men in the South, particularly in the Alabama-Tenn, Tenn-Kentucky, T-K-Va Tenn-NC state border regions? Do Appalachian men as a rule leave for work elsewhere before they get married, leaving the single women in those areas they knew thru HS behind?? Is this a trend one sees in the Deep South as well?

Or are other forces in play, and if so, what could they be?

The forum's thoughts are truly appreciated.

Best, Doctor Blues

Hilariously, I'm in Atlanta.

The problem with women in Atlanta, and maybe New York are their standards.

For a normal guy you have to jump through hoops and they will get on TV saying this percentage of guys don't have this or that. Then, you see them next with some 6 foot tall dude. Then some get on the radio saying certain groups of men have failed them. Yet, they have failed themselves as far as exercise is concerned.

Ugh, the women out there these days make the 50s-70s look good.

Summary: They hold up all of these standards, then cry when they drop them for some physically attractive stud who breaks their heart.

Also, I wish they'd filter out people who have done drugs, are willingly single, prostitutes, have kids, and the like.

That is true. You have to put in a lot of work to impress and keep the attractive Metro Atlanta girls. You can lose their interest real quick. Then again I tend to go for the native Southern, suburban, OTP, hi-class, and usually Christian and conservative types. Maybe I should go for the opposite next time I'm in town (black, liberal, ITP city girl).

Exactly. I've seen girls that are mean to average Joes and my friends, but are nice to me and willing to have a convo.

Looking at this map, I was struck by an article I read yesterday. Top among women's needs was "regular showers"!

They should just move west where it's dryer and they will need to be less regular.

i can confirm the map for south carolina. greenville is horrible if you're a single male. if you're a single guy in charleston your date book will be booked solid each week. it's almost like night and day. spoke with a guy in greenville who works for GE and does a lot of their recruiting of college grads. said his biggest challenge is keeping young guys in their 20s to stay in greenville b/c the social life / dating pool is so dry. girls in greenville have their pick to say the least. guys in greenville have to fight tooth and nail to land the one girl who isn't pregnant / already has a kid and who graduated from at least a community college.
