Just as an idea of what you may find in an antique shop go to ebay and type in "Antique diamond engagement rings" click on price lowest to highest and it'll give you some kind of idea of what's out there. My aunt lives in an area that has an uptown area with wall to wall antique stores and I've seen some really interesting, unique and nice ones.
I'm not materialistic at all, but with such a low cost ring, It would make me doubt him a little. I would accept it, but I would wonder if he is serious about our relationship, or if he gives one of these to all his girlfriends.
If your guy saw how concerned you were about the monetary value of the ring he would have doubts about your reasons to marry him.
Oh My God. You don't have to spend like $5000.00 but jeese you could at least spend a couple hundred. If you really care this may be an insult. I would be insulted if my boyfriend proposed to me with that. Helzberg and Kay are really not that expensive, you could at least sell off something and try to finance it?
