I thought I had a wicked TMNT collection. Then I realized that someone from down the street at every single action figure still in box.

Then I threw all of those away and never owned another action figure. About that time I found girls, too, but that's a different story.

Some of those action figures are worth a lot of money now. Too bad you didn't keep them!

They're worth waaaay less if they were out of the box. Probably worth nothing.

It's OK though, I got my money's worth from those figures, especially the pizza thrower.

That disproves a theory. That action figures do not do anything.

If you owned any of the original star wars action figures, or you just bought a "cantina" you would basically be rich, since those fetch for a huge amount of money, in good condition.

And the only reason I know this, is because I watched the 40 year old virgin, and did some research.

Haha, many of my Star Wars fan friends have unopened action figure collections. They're cool if it's vintage stuff, but only because I'm a collector and I know the rarity of some of those items. A good collection can be worth a nice amount by this point, but newer unopened toys are unlikely to retain much value honestly. They're too common now. The reason the old ones appreciated so much is because the popularity of the franchise skyrocketed and nobody thought to keep them unopened, except a few rare examples.

I have always stuck with the adult collectibles, original art, signed prints, prop replicas, etc. Most have held their value well or went up, certainly no worse investment than the stock market overall. One piece started at $500 and is now over $2,000 today, only about 4-5 years later.
