I wish they'd just scrap the daylight savings thing sometimes. Does it really do any good?

Today is April 19th and is National Garlic Day.

Where did we get the superstition that Garlic wards off Vampires?

We have all seen pictures of folks wearing garlands of garlic to ward off Vampires. People in Europe during the ravages of The Plague even smeared garlic on the windows, doors of their houses, on the gates to their farmyards, and even on the horns of their cattle. How did such a superstition get started? Superstitious peoples of the 15th and 16th centuries thought that the Plague was spread by Vampires.

The superstition may still have some merit today with respect to dating. If you suspect your date to be vampiric simply order something on the menu with garlic in it to avoid having to deal with getting too close or that end of the night kiss. Personally, I prefer mine roasted (garlic that is) and spread on crusty bread.

Also, to be safe, before entering a forum thread, it may be best to don some garlic around the neck, lest you get sucked in.

Garlic... Yum.

Crabman... Yes there are times a hug is great. Other times it is better if people just steer clear of me. Chemo was like that. It was a stay a far far far ways away from me.

Okay, Thursday, NOW you're talkin'. Yes, roasted and spread on crusty bread.

I also love to slice up a ton of it into thin slivers, lightly fry them in some olive oil, sprinkle a tiny bit of salt, and eat them as a snack. It probably sounds gross, but I got the idea from a garlic recipe book where you're actually supposed to mix it up with home-roasted peanuts. I just omitted the middle man.

And that brings us to Hawk's post: Which cookbook was it? Why, The Gilroy Garlic Festival cookbook, of course; one of them, anyway.

Crabman, how is your mom doing? Do you have any family or friends around right now to help?
