Do you guys even know how HIV, HPV etc. is transmitted and treated/controlled?
I'm still surprised at the responses on this site. Never expected them to be so negative.

You do know that HIV is a virus right?
Viruses are tricky. They flare up....and dissapear...and come back. You can't treat it with antibiotics because it doesn't have a DNA to be detected.
Now, you're right on one thing, there are medications that can control a virus...but there is another thing though: inspite of the meds, there is a chance that a VIRUS CAN FLARE UP AGAIN!!
..hence the many (or few) medications to decrease the chances of outbreaks.
OP that is kind of a dumb question: If I'm not sure about the guy's medical history about how frequent the outbreaks or symptoms coming up--- hell! I still wouldn't chance that!
Back to my response. I would like to know where you're getting this information about how HIV can be harmless. I got my medical textbooks to check on that.

Unequivocally and emphatically NO! Clean as a whistle and prefer to keep it that way. People with herpes should date each other - problem solved.

You probably already have. Only 1/4 of people with Herpes even know they have it because they are asymptomatic.
Most tests for STDs don't include Herpes.
You do the math.

Why would you make such a foolish assumption? Do you know me? I didn't think so. I just love it when people make statements about other posters instead of the subject of the thread.
Should I assume you have herpes because you are taking such a personal stance about it? See how that works?

It's still not worth the risk, no matter how minute, of catching a disease that at best would need to be managed for life. I don't know how much management of the disease has improved in the last decade...but I guarantee it can't cost less time, effort, pain, and heartache than being HIV-negative.
There's so many people out there that AREN'T HIV-positive...there's nothing to gain from the risk, whereas there's potentially a huge downside.

I would have to say no on that one.
One thing about some diseases though, syphillis, herpes...
I had an elderly patient who started going blind. They found out he had syphilis many many years later and he never knew until this symptom. A big wow there.
Herpes. I know someone who did not know they had it til it flared.... many years after contracted. Tricky stuff. So it can be true. One may not know they have something, unfortunately...

Unless every one of your partners was specifically tested for Herpes prior to having sex with you, then you don't know if you took a risk or not.
Maybe you were the exception and made sure to have this done every time. But the majority of people don't and have no clue that it's not included in most STD testing. And many people assume there are symptoms.
If you do the math, there are tons of people who have unknowingly slept with someone who had Herpes. So, consider my post a public service.
I personally know two women who caught it from partners who were asymptomatic.
One of them caught it from the only guy she had ever slept with. They had taken a break for six months in college and he slept with one other girl during that time. He unknowingly caught it from her and gave it to my friend when they got back together. He never had symptoms and he would never have known he was carrying it except that she had an outbreak and got tested.
The other woman caught it from the first guy she slept with after her divorce.

50 million people in the USA have Herpes. Most do not even know they have it.
I've said it a thousand times before..If it's not going to kill me (hiv, hepatitus) then I'm fine dating someone with an STD. Just because they have an STD doesn't mean they are a bad person, etc. Shyt happens people and you might be passing up a very good person who was put in a situation they had no control over..
I bet most of the people on this forum who are saying NO WAY have been in contact with someone with herpes and they don't even know it..

I certainly don't fault people for wanting to protect themselves.
Even if an STD is a fairly benign one, a small percentage can develop complications.
Most people have no idea what they've been exposed to already. The irony is how many people say they would not date someone with Herpes, yet they unknowingly have it themselves.
The health profession doesn't do the greatest job of getting the message out. And I can't figure out why it's standard practice to administer testing for STDs, yet leave out Herpes!
Very weird. No surprise that 50 million people have it.
