Yes, you would need to ask the friend why the parents aren't in the pictures.

It can go both ways, I've seen people whose parents were very lenient and not protective at all become estranged from their family. And I've seen people who stayed close to what seemed like overprotective parents.

It sounds like it would have to be something a whole lot more than her parents protecting her that would have her hating them if she does actually hate them.

You can't assume too much from a picture.

Well, her siblings are in the pictures. And the groom's siblings, parents and other family members are in the pictures.
