When I 1st meet a guy, I like to ask them the almighty fantasy question, What would you do if you hit the Lotto? This question isn't just about getting rich from a gas station ticket. It could also mean inheriting from that rich Uncle that never got married.
All those Stats claim that money is often a prime cause of divorce. So I figure the "get rich quick" question is about money, therefore I tend to use that as a indicator of our compatibility.
For example, both people would answer... Travel the World. It's safe to say, they have compatible desires/goals.
The problem is... I'm an "odd duck". I hear these guys chime on about owning a collection of cars, and other misc high priced toys, travel, a McMansion... and I just cringe. To say we are polar opposites is an understatement.
Would you consider the almighty fantasy question of "What would you do if you won the Lotto?" to be an indicator of compatibility? (If so.... I'm going to be alone for the rest of my life LOL)
Well if she goes "i'd go on a shopping spree" or "I'd go help kids in an african country" then that would be negative for me. Don't get me wrong I don't have anything against african children, I'd just rather do something with the money myself.
But I think it's a good question, not only to see how they handle made up quantities of money but also to see how they view things around them.
My answer to the question would be that to begin with I wouldn't be inclined to just spend it all right away.
First thing I'd do is to pay my moms dentalbills and make sure she got her teeth fixed in a quality way.(she got completely screwed by her former dentist and is now paying the price with huge debts and even bigger mouthproblems) Then I might go traveling some and update my wardrobe a bit, try some cool stuff etc but with the bulk of the money I think I'd wait a bit and consider my options before spending.
I want a small house, 1000-1500 sq ft with unfinished basement. 5 acres out in the country (maybe 10 acres). I want the house heated in the winter with a combination Solar Hot Air Collector and wood. Fruit Orchard Trees and shrubs. Veggie garden with chickens and rabbits. Rainwater Harvesting barrels. I want my life as "off grid" as possible. Since I'm a hardcore fisherman (woman), a private stocked pond would be my Luxury.
When I mention this to people, they are BAFFLED. The most common comments....
Why worry about the Utility bills when you can afford it?
Why grow your own food when it's so simple to buy it?
Why such a small house when you can afford maids and butlers?
In other words.... WHY would I want a life that doesn't include 24/7 LUXURY?
Yep, you are an odd duck. You don't need a jackpot to accomplish that though
To me, there's a balance. I mean, the desire to have a few amenities in life is not a terrible one. At the same time, to go shopping like a pimp with a week to live tells the world that your idea of happiness is made up of things rather than experiences.
Travel is the thing that I would gladly splurge on. Not to stay in five-star hotels, but rather experience the amazing things in the world.
