I happen to love to cook and my husband really appreciates it. However, there was no cooking prerequisite when we were dating and I only do so when I have time. When I don't have the time, he happily puts together something for dinner although his repertoire is limited but equally tasty or we'll order out.

BTW, despite advances of women in the workplace, the best chefs in the world today are still primarily men. No reason that a man should not know how to cook or put together something. It's not cooking that men looked for in their women, but servitude to the home and family bound by apron strings and diapers.

I'm not that worried about it. We can cook together, or take turns, and learn how to cook different things. Not really a big deal.

If I were answering for my SO, I would say, no, it's not important, because a person doesn't have to know how to cook well to be able to make cereal, pasta, hot dogs, mac and cheese (powdered only, no homemade versions!), canned soup, convenience store snacks, and frozen pizza, which are his top choices for meals 99.9% of the time.

I actually CAN cook, but I mostly just end up cooking nice meals for myself, b/c SO's tastebuds never advanced beyond the Chef Boyardee phase. He has the gastronomy of an 8-year old. It's kind of a sad situation for somebody whose tastes run more to the foodie end, and who loves to cook.

Well, if I'm ever single, and you're ever single, we could have food in common.

Seriously.

This relationship has taught me, weirdly, how important compatibility in this arena is to me. Who knew? But I find his limited palate truly irksome.

Yes, I agree, I have a couple of co-workers that I'd seriously like to throttle because of their 10 yr old taste palate.

I know I can be a bit of a food snob.

That being said, I sorta view people like that as being kinda dumb. I know that they aren't dumb.... its just seems that way...

Harsh, I know.....

I'm not even a snob. I don't think that, um, say, vegetables are that exotic or cutting edge. I wasn't aware that anybody past the age of about four did, either.

Likewise, Chow! Much of what some call "cuisine" is nothing more than a disgusting concoction to me.
