Is their a difference between men and women, and how they view texting. I ask because I use texting for work and to ask quick questions. My fiance likes to chit chat.

My husband uses it for work mostly, or to get in touch with me if I'm not available to talk.

I'm not big on chit chatting through text. I use it when I can't make a phone call or I know the other person can't receive a phone call.

I'm not a big texter...... I only use it for quick one way messages, such as:

In meeting call you later.

Running late.

etc etc........

My wife is one of those who use it in place of talking on the phone if possible. There's been a few occasions where she sells or buys something on craigslist and we're driving to meet the other people, and I ask "So..is it a man/woman?" and she replies "I don't know, we just text each other.."

Call me crazy, but I at the very least want to talk to someone directly before I meet them..

I'm definitely a texter. I tend to be more introverted so it's better for me.

I have to admit, I used to be so against texting but having two adult kids who insist on texting, I finally just caved and started doing it. In the beginning it was only texting quick little texts back and forth between them. From there grew, I was texting a friend here, a friend there. Then they'd text back and before I knew it, we were having full conversations over texting! From there it grew more, I got a new b/f, we would text while at work even though we worked at the same location... SMH, Oh my, I need help LMAO...

Ok, I made fun of the situation here but truly? I think texting has a place. I can't stand seeing a couple out to dinner and they're both looking at their phones. Grrr... it seems like people don't know how to converse face to face anymore and that's what aggravates me the most.

I don't think it's a gender thing, I think it's a person to person thing. I'm pretty anti being glued to your phone when you're with people you ought to be interacting with; I find it horribly rude. I don't consider texting to be valid socialization, I find it to be a sparingly-used tool for communication in specific contexts.

I completely agree...... I got some co-workers that just do it way way too much... the point of being rude as hell.......

I was about to say the same. I don't think it has to do with gender at all. There are men who like to have long conversations via text and women who don't, and vice-versa. I think it has more to do with age than anything. It's usually the younger generation who gets caught up with all the texting in place of having face-to-face conversation. But it definately varies from individual to individual.
