What happened was...

Mom said, "I'm not too keen on you meeting some guy from the web. I've got to check him out before you two start to date." "You either can go on your date with me riding shotgun, or you can invite him here for a game of Monopoly and Bridge with us and the neighbor girl (who's psychic), so I can give him the once over and the neighbor girl can "feel" him out."

She probably protested and eventually gave into Mom's wishes.

If Mom likes you then you're "in".

Now that were done with that, yes that date sounded weird. Really though you got to know some people that are close to her. She may have been misused in the past, and unknowingly you just went through a trust test. I wouldn't let it get to me if I were you.
