A 7 year old won't forget you if they see you every few months. Just make it an opportunity to travel when you can, even if it's a 3 day weekend and you could explore the new area with her.

You get them and yourself skype sofware and hardware and install it before they leave. Practice with it and stay in touch that way. It will be awesome for a 7 yr old. Also, they do love getting snail mail; my kids love it. we had to move out of state as well and my kids are in that age range. Maybe once a year or so, travel over there and have a nice quality visit. She will love it. Good luck!
