The person who sent the friend request just joined yesterday and profile says they are originally from Nigeria. I thought it was odd. I don't add anyone as friends anyway.
Anything from Nigeria is a scam. Nothing against the country, but lot of scammers from there.

Don't you know that there are millions of dollars in unclaimed funds waiting to be transferred into your bank account if only you would give them your account number?
I'm glad you were savvy enough not to add the person.
I'm a fairly paranoid person, so wouldn't add anyone and I don't see the point of it anyway.
But I'm curious about why someone would look to add someone as a friend who they have never conversed with or posted on their thread, to get what? What could the scam be?

i got one of those emails more than 5 years ago. i emailed the guy and he gave me his phone number in Nigeria and i called it. he actually answered. i didn't send him any requested info tho.
More than likely they're a regular. They see that your profile is set to friends only. So they create a bogus, troll account hoping you're some kind of insecure, get as many friends as you possibly can teenager. You'll friend them, then get to see a pic. Is it that hard to figure out?
Scenario two is they stumbled across your online rants, like what you said, are a fan and asked you to be a friend because they like you. But that's about as rare as Unicorns.

Yeah, that's a possibility, too, I guess. Who cares...

My daughter gets 15 requests a day from guys on facebook that she doesn't know. Doesn't hurt that she has a hot vanity avatar, which is the only photo they can see without being her friend.
