I think you should go with your gut instinct...that never fails

Make sure nothing is missing and next time she even wants to visit say NO.

Sounds to me like she was just trying to figure out where you keep your dishes.

You already know the answer - nothing else fell and I assume you don't have a cat.

BTW, you said she TOLD you she was staying multiple days when that wasn't your agreement. Do you have a problem with letting people dictate to you?

Not harsh. Direct. Clear. What, I should make it so wishywashy that my friends tell ME how long and when they are staying?

Not in the least. She lives in a small studio apartment, hadn't seen the woman for over three years and had hardly any communication with her at all during that period.

The bottom line is that hopefully she learned a valuable lesson. If at some time in the future someone else similarly pops out of the woodwork she'll know enough to say, "I'd love to get together for drinks/dinner/whatever while you're in the area and if you need some help finding a hotel/motel I'd be more than happy to help!"

The "friend" in general sounds definitely odd and the theme song to "The Twilight Zone" is now running through my head ...
