Hey guys! This thread will be the official love poetry thread here on C-D! You can post any kind of love poem here. It can be happy, sad, funny, angry, whatever! And it could be your own poem or a poem you found somewhere!
Let the poetry sharing begin! Here's one of mine:
Where are you, Adam?
Where are you, Adam?
Where can I find you?
I'm your Eve, waiting to be your partner in life.
I'm waiting to marry you, to become one flesh.
Are you out there? Do you exist?
Or are you merely an illusion? A dream?
If you do exist, please tell me and come to me.
I want to be with you for all eternity.

Oh, I used to know a good one...it was really short...something about "Nantucket". Ring any bells with anyone?
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
The day you left..
The rain came down
And donned my heart
With sorrows crown
Yet my mind did dwell
On warm summer days
When I held you close
And sweet music we made.
Wind in the leaves
Willows in the breeze
The sound of your laughter
Is a ghost in the trees
And so now alone
In this world...unkind
With a hole in my heart
That you leave behind
I saw all that I was
Or ever could be
Just out of reach
A ghost....in the trees. Written on the coldest day I can remember...June of 1992. My heart healed some over time....but she left a ragged scar. And I can't help but still love her to this day. Good idea for a thread......gives folks a place to park those feelings that are hard to describe outside of prose. Thanks......
You tell me you love me, but is it true?
I love you as a brother, and don't want to leave you blue.
I don't want to break your heart.
It would tear me apart!
We both want different things in life.
Which makes me think I wouldn't be a good wife.
You say you'll honor my decision,
But statistics say this disagreement would cause division
I don't want to keep you from your desire to be a dad.
But I don't want to bear anyone's children, so find someone else who will bear them. I'm sure they'll make you glad.
I know I'm thinking a bit far ahead,
But I think its best if we stay friends instead.
That night we met you touched my heart
So deeply that I thought to burst
The rapture went when one huge fart
Raised up the sheets – it was the WORST.
My dear lost love, I must declare
That ‘though I loved your body smell
I now have learned that pre-sex fare
Should not be downed at Taco Bell.
This is more just Romantic-era poetry but I think there's still something beautiful about it, just thinking of experiencing such sights whilst with a person you love.
Composed Upon Westminster Bridge, Sept. 3, 1802 by William Wordsworth
EARTH has not anything to show more fair:
Dull would he be of soul who could pass by
A sight so touching in its majesty:
This City now doth, like a garment, wear
The beauty of the morning; silent, bare,
Ships, towers, domes, theatres, and temples lie
Open unto the fields, and to the sky;
All bright and glittering in the smokeless air.
Never did sun more beautifully steep
In his first splendour, valley, rock, or hill;
Ne'er saw I, never felt, a calm so deep!
The river glideth at his own sweet will:
Dear God! the very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!
That night we met you touched my heart
So deeply that I thought to burst
The rapture went when one huge fart
Raised up the sheets – it was the WORST.
My dear lost love, I must declare
That ‘though I loved your body smell
I now have learned that pre-sex fare
Should not be downed at Taco Bell.
Clever!
Let me counter that with a serious one of mine:
"THE MAN AND THE TREE" Who are you? She asked...ambiguity
I am the man from under the tree
He spoke of tranquility, she grasped...familiarity
We've met before haven't we?
Dormant...long ago thoughts poured out
Joy and pain in life is what it's all about
We've walked along this path once and parted
For a reason beyond us, yet upon acted
You'll meet again soon, a soothing breeze sounded
Neither here nor there, but where you'll be bounded
And once again that beautiful tree will knowingly bend To witness the meeting of souls
With neither a beginning nor end
