lol, I do that (not the reclining bit though). I find something very very liberating about driving with the windows down and the music blasting (not so loud that you can hear it clearly on the other side of an interstate, just enough so that I can hear it over the wind. Maybe makes the rearview shake a little bit ). Especially when the weather is nice... ****, I get excited just thinking about it! Just me, a machine (I've done this in a freakin' minivan and it's still enjoyable) and the open road. Crisp fresh air in the morning, or cooling yet slightly warm air in the evening. Basically doable in weather from about 45F-95F. There is no greater pleasure, in my opinion, than a good drive.
I don't think the loud music and windows down is what I find unappealing. Perhaps if you hung out around Brooklyn, you would understand what I mean.
Picture a person (regardless of gender) sitting straight up and driving with his hands in the "10 and 2" position. Recently I was watching a friend doing this again and today I thought of it for some reason. I was wondering if I notice too much or other people notice too little...
Actually I just figure they drive strictly by the DMV Rules book, and remember what they learned in Driver's ed.
This isn't the first off the wall thing you've mentioned that tickles your fancy, add this one and call it the "Speed Racer complex".

You mean the "The-only-thing-I-can-see-is-the-backwards-hat" -style of driving? With the right arm perpetually stretched out to the stereo that costs more than the car? Sitting slumped, almost sideways, in the fake Recaro seat? With the fart-can mufflers? And their boney, geeky little T. Rex left arm thrown casually over the wheel?
Certainly their vehicle. As a result of that, they are largely in control of their lives, their fate, and the lives and fates of others.
I don't know about their lives, but they're certainly no more in control of their vehicles than anybody else who is not as stiff. I don't factor in yapping, texting, sexting, pigging, and all that jazz.
