Many of my students have said the same thing due to being children of divorced parents. I think that we will see in the future more people being single due to choice, marrying later in life (but NOT old enough to be set in their ways, and less divorces of those who do marry due to what these adults have experienced growing up.
I agree with this and don't think it's a bad thing at all. Let's face reality, a lot of people who do get married have shouldn't be getting married.
And divorce rates have gone down since the 70's though it's still too high for my taste. People can look it up: The 10 year divorce rate for those married in the 90's is less than for those married in the 80's which is less than for those married in the 70's. I think it's something like 23% for the 70's vs 16% for the 90's. That's really the only way to compare different decades.
It'll never happen. There's so many that refuse to divorce for religious reasons, as well as those that never marry. A better question is, what percentage of married couples are happily married?
Feminism, lesbianism, children, pornography, and cheating. And no, I'm not overly religious.
OH NO, PLEASE, PLEASE do a forum search on this topic. Lesbianism? - oh my lord I've seen it all now.
[LEFT]I can honestly tell you that the number one reason for marriage break ups and relationship problems is resentment. I know: most of us do not really want to be mean or impatient. We do not really want to judge our husband or yell at our kids. But we do not know how to stop ourselves. We get out of control, and then either blow up or else suppress and get a headache or tummy ache
If that thought was in the back of your mind, you are not alone. It must be in the back of some couple's minds because 50 to 60% of today's newlyweds will divorce. Why?
The number one reason is money. They say money makes the world go around. But they also say it is the root of all evil.
The other top reasons for divorce:
Infidelity.
Poor communication
Change in priorities. This can be caused by having kids or due to ones job, big things.
Lack of commitment to the marriage.
Sexual problems.
Other reasons that come up frequently, but not as frequently are:
Addictions
Failed expectations of your spouse (believing one is a super hero or that he/she can fix or be everything to or for you)
Video games aren't much of a distraction like shopping for material things.
Oh you have no idea. Video games can be extremely distracting.
