This is based off of another thread. How important would you say that gender roles are not only in relationships but in society on a scale of 1 to 10.
If I had to choose, I'd say a 2. The problem with gender roles is that it seems everyone has a different opinion on what they consider feminine and masculine, what a real man and a real women is. Because the consensus of these gender roles differ from person to person they really lose power.
Society in general still needs them. It is a a part of some religions, for example, and some people actually like being controlled by societal norms (women who want to shop and have babies, men who want to work on cars and have the woman cook and clean).
They are not important to me, though. I don't like women that strive to be housewives, and I don't want a partner that needs to feel submissive or protected by me.
I say 0. As long as both are somehow contributing to the marriage, who cares what they do?
Agreed. Whether or not people's roles fall into traditional gender roles is irrelevant so long as both are contributing, and both are content with what each other is contributing.

I'd say a 1 or 2. Doesn't matter to me who does what, as long as what needs doin' gets done!

Good point. That is true. I would say perhaps....5 out of 10. But due to what you just said..im just not too sure about much higher. LOL And my rating is based on my feelings and how I think other people in the world may feel, whether i agree or not.

This right here. You can't rate the importance of gender roles in a society as a whole because the consensus varies from couple to couple. For the traditional couple it may be extremely important, while to the liberal one it may be non-existant. Every family functions differently and as long as they are happy and content with their dynamic, nobody should tell them what is "right" or "wrong" according to them, because there is no right and wrong. There's someone out there for everyone, so there's no point in wasting time and energy hating on those who don't share your same ideas. Just don't date them, they'll find someone who does. That's my philosophy.
