We went out and ran some errands today, while we were out we also stopped by Five Guys burgers, Mrs. Chow had never had them before.... pretty good stuff. Gives our west coast In and Out burger a serious run for there money.
They just started opening up locations here in So Cal fairly recently. I know that they are pretty big back east.
Needless to say, dinner is gonna be something lighter.

I've never made a stew. I need to do that with the crock pot. This soup so far- I sauteed garlic, onion, pearl onion, peas, turnip, parsnip, carrots, broccoli, table spoon of rice for thickness, leeks, and celery. I had my broth warming in another pot (that was made from a bunch of different veggies) and added that to the sauteing veggies with dill, parsley, oregano, and a dash of hot pepper. When it's almost finished I'll add a bit of escarole. I'm cooking veggie sausage in a different pan and will add that to the individual bowls. Heated, crusty Italian bread will be on the side.
Don't you put cut up taters in your soup? We always do.

I had a whole bag of those gourmet blue potatoes (my husband gets them), but I let them sit too long and they got all hairy. That's why I added a tbsp of rice, to thicken it up where the potatoes would.
eta: and we try not to back to the supermarket until the designated time (for our budget). I make do with what we have.
I'm a serious meat and potatoes kind of guy, but I'm trying to work in more veggies, I know mrs. chow is always riding me about eating more fruits and veggies.
Actually, the little dog used to put them out of their misery and then bring me their fresh kill at 4 a.m., throw it at my feet or next to my bed, and stand there all tufted out and proud waiting for a prize. Unfortunately, she recently passed away after 15 years of service and the one I have now actually rescues and adopts small animals - remember the possum in the bed incident- so, it remains to be seen how this will play out.
I also love dogs but the sad thing is...it breaks my heart whenever they have to be put to sleep due to old age, gone through it twice already. We have one now that's been with us for 7 years, spoiled but good at his job!

I mentioned that there will be veggie sausage in the soup! Yea, I know, not the same, but the biggest, best difference is about 3-500 in calories.
I didn't get to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian. I do like vegetables if they are done right.
