Could be I had one of those when I was young. And his wife talked to me and said it's not my fault he had done this before. After I chewed him out. I asked her why the heck are you staying with him!!

Why didn't you call to talk to him the first few days? 3 weeks means there is no relationship to save.

I wouldn't accept most of those as a reason. If he needed to be gone for 3 weeks he should have sent a quick email or text saying so he would get back in touch with her.
