Several years back my daughter was almost killed by a drunk driver and the only thing that was good that came out of it was that she met Nick.

I got to watch them grow together and fall in love. Most people around them tried to push them into marriage early but they wanted to take their time and finish school.

Nick will complete his doctorate this year as well as Amanda will complete her masters.

Nick pulled me on the side today and asked if I would allow him to marry Amanda. Wow talk about respect for parents. I gave him my blessing and told him that I respected that he even asked.

Part of me grew and part of me felt like I lost my daughter. But I'm smart enough to know that I lost her to a great man and I also gained another son.

Damn you Nick for taking my daughter but I could not have wished for a better person to welcome into the family.

At your wedding my tears will be of joy because I know in my heart that you two love each other.

I think this is very important and encouraging to see that there are still men that respects the girl's parents. I would love if my guy ask my dad for my hand. Oh yes, respect is important.

Congratulation!

I agree...very refreshing indeed.

To the OP: The thought of a precious little girl growing up and leaving the parental nest to start a life apart from what is shared with her parents, is indeed scary to most fathers, let alone, both parents. However, It is such a blessing to know that you're handing your daughter over to the man whom you feel best suited as a mate for her.
Yes!!! you're not losing a daughter, rather...you're gaining a son as you've stated.

Congratulations!!! and thank you for sharing this good news with us on C-D.
