Padlock and Keys parties - ever been to one? (dating, wife, Asians)

Has anybody here ever been to a Padlock and Keys party? How did it turn out?

I was at one during the weekend, and it was horrible, way more men than women (I'm male). At one point there were 37 guys and 2 women (some guy counted and told me). A lot more women walked in later, but there were still 1.5 times men as women.

I got 2 phone numbers out of it but I'm not sure if I can be bothered to call...

Once. It was probably a 50/50 split, but the women were uniformly unappealing. I got drunk and hit on the hot waitresses.

Just Googled this and read about it. Sounded gay to me.

I don't see why gimmicks like this are necessary to get single men and women to talk to one another. Just go to a place where there are a bunch of singles and hit on the ones you like.

I guess some guys are too shy to approach women. Before the padlocks and keys were handed out, I noticed a woman sat across the room on her own, and there was about 10 guys near her and none of them went up to her and spoke to her - I did

They actually sound completely different. Padlock and Key is a way for singles to meet, and "key parties" in the sense that you're thinking is a way for people to swap gf/bf/wife/husband for a good time.

i went to one or two years ago and as someone already said, every_single_person there was basically hideous looking. not even average, i mean hideous. they were all 45+, completely outta shape and would never, ever be able to get laid if it wasn't for these parties.

needless to say, i didn't belong there

The women who did turn up to my one were on the whole, pretty attractive. Mostly Chinese and Japanese women, a couple of white women and I think there was one black woman there. Most of the seemed to be aged between 28-40. I'm in LA - so that's why there were so many East Asians there.

It's not a key party, but I did have to google it to figure that out. From what I gather, every single person gets a padlock and a key and then goes around trying to see whose padlock fits their key. It's an icebreaker to talk to other singles.

I think I'd get competitive and end up running around trying to unlock as many people as I could instead of getting to know folks. Speed dating sounds more appealing, if I ever decide to participate in such an event.
