Someone you're in love with on occasion asks you why you love them or what you see in them. You try to list all the things you love about them but, even to you, it's not all there is, yet, you can't quite put your finger on why.
When you ask someone why they love you (personally, I never look a gift-horse in the mouth ) what is it you really want to hear from them? Do you even know?
I would like to hear something that ONLY he would love about me. Not general things, small things that only someone who knows me well would love about me.

Let's not read too much into this.
That was one of my suspicions because they ooze confidence to everyone. But then, they seem to be looking for acceptance or wanting everyone to like them at the same time. And they usually are liked by everyone. Kind of a person you either love or hate but while the hates are so few, they are intense.

Is this statement the same as Why do you love me? "I don't know what I did/do to make you love me so much"? I suspect so. This is exactly how it was phrased.

To answer my own question, the more I think about it, I think it has more to do with ego than insecurity with some. This person is sometimes a little egocentric, but in a charming, irresistible way--if that's possible. No, it is because he does it with humor. Definitely ego.
