I'm sure it exists, but I don't think it truly occurs as often as it's claimed. Almost everyone prefers one over the other. It seems, especially in men, as if the term bisexual is frequently used as a transitional label between closeted gay and openly gay, or as a label of convenience, allowing a traditinonal life, while being excused for dalliances with members of the same sex. JMHO, YMMV, etc.

Also, sexual experimentation, does not qualify for a definition of bisexuality or homosexuality. Eventually they end up going for one side or the other, almost exclusively.

Most self-identifying bisexual people I've met tend to prefer one gender over the other. That doesn't make those people any less bisexual.
