I slept on a California king size bed once. When I woke up it took me 25 minutes to walk from the spot I slept to the edge of the bed.

When my girlfriend and I slept on one, we had to call each other on the phone for pillow talk.

The alarm clock on the side table went off at 7am and I didn't hear it til 7:05 . . . PM . . .

My husband was HUGE snoring machine, I never got any rest. I didn't want to sleep in different beds, we were for a while and I started to feel less connected to him. My solution was to buy a king size bed, now when he is loud, we can have 2 feet between us. It helps.

I suggested two separate rooms for fear of him seeing me at my worst...incredulous look and rubbing my back softly is what I got for an answer...

Im a good man, I just want a good nights sleep where I dont have to sleep with a freakin thick blanket during the summer, and arms and legs in the spleen..
You wouldn't get any complaints from me. In fact, I'd love it.

Do yourself a favor and get a Sleep Number bed.

It's really like two twin beds pushed together.

There is no comfortable way to sleep in the middle or close to each other, yet you are close enough so she can hold your hand or just touch you in the night if that is important to her, and apparently it is.

In your situation, you should be able to score a compromise of a long body pillow between you when it is time to drift off and adopt the Scandanavian practice of each having your own comforter (ever seen the beds at Ikea?). It's worth a try. You only get one spleen.
Great suggestions. My parents bought one of those mechanical beds, it's actually two twins pushed together. They can recline and vibrate and more and it's just one half of the bed. My mom says this has made a huge difference for dealing with my restless snoring stepdad.

Yeah, but if he passes on during the night the thought of having slept near a dead body would give me nightmares!!!! On the other hand I could tell myself it was nice that he took his last breath while being near me.

--------------

Hubby and I share a king size bed, yet I always end up sleeping on the seam of the mattress. He works his way over and gets all up on my back that I can't even turn - and I sleep on my side as it is. I have to literally push him over to the other side of the bed. I like a cool room so I put on the AC, he doesn't like AC so if I'm sleeping when he goes to bed he turns it off and puts the bedspread over me. At some point I wake up sweating.

I get his elbow in my face or head. His hand ends up resting on my face. He throws his arm across my hair and I wake up feeling as if someone is pulling on it. He snores. He spreads himself out from one corner to the opposite end corner.

This is where the second bedroom comes in, which we have had for several years. I got so tired of broken sleep and waking up miserable. There are times I tell him to sleep in there because I am need of a good sleep. There are times he goes off to sleep alone because he says he needs a good nights sleep.

I wouldn't go for separate beds in the same room. A second bedroom is a viable option.

Why not get a bigger bed?

Stand your ground OP. It's better for your marriage if you are awake and cheerful during the day instead of tired and cranky. Getting enough sleep is very important, plus you'll live longer
