OK, explain something to me. Virtually EVERY woman I've dated asks me my sign or some useless astrological trivia like that. Are women that superstitious that they think that your DOB or the cosmos will determine whether you'll be compatible?

The sad part is most of these women aren't asking just for fun, I think they really do believe this crap

And I heard that in cultures in Asia, personality compatibility is matched by year of birth and blood type! So apparently, compatibility matching by useless facts is not limited to American women; it's global.

Whenever I'm asked these silly questions, I have to put on my best face and pretend to take them seriously even though in my mind I'm thinking "God, not this again!!!!!! What answer do I have to give to get to home plate"

I think if someone can find the statistics, you'd find a shocking number of people in general believe in it. I never have, but I've known a LOT of people who did. And yes, most of them were women.

I believe in astrology. I've been studying it since I was 8. I can say that it is absolutely accurate and has helped me learn how to understand (and also manipulate) people. You can't look at only a persons sun sign, you have to get the full chart.

You don't have to believe in it yourself, but you should respect it. It is like with religions. I don't believe in all of those religions out there, but I still respect other peoples' right to believe whatever they like.

Why not just be honest. Say "I don't believe in astrology; I think it is silly. Tell my why you see the validity in it." You might get into a good discussion.

But if all you are doing is looking to get laid, you probably don't care about having a thought-provoking discussion. So in that case, just pretend you love astrology and hope for the best.

So anyway Josh, I've been meaning to ask - What's your sign!?

Seriously though, I imagine some people resort to this when they're scratching around for chitchat when the relationship is new, so, icebreaker maybe? More interesting than weather?

Next time, try something new and maybe respond "What sign do you think I am - and why?" and see where that goes.

Well I love astrology because its very thought provoking if you actually take the time to show genuine interest in it just as any other hobby a person decides to partake in. I do usually ask people what sign they are during our conversation especially if its apparent we have a lot in common. I was talking to this guy and he was saying everything I was thinking and when I asked him his birthday, it was the same as mine minus the birth year and I had a feeling we were the same sign but the fact that we had the same birthday was even more telling cos the more we talked the more I felt he was the male version of me. There are signs I know I do not want to date or befriend because history always repeats itself so why keep trying at something that obviously isn't going to work. Astrology has helped me tremendously not only with dealing with other people but on a personal level as well.

So I guess you can say I take astrology pretty seriously but I don't really come in contact with people who are insulted by it. The last 2 guys I dated had their sign tattooed on them.

I like it cause it gives you a quick guess of what person's personality may or may not be. TBH, I think the prediction part of astrology is pretty silly, but the personality stuff isn't. I'm a Scorpio according to astrology and I exhibit a lot of Scorpio traits from what I can tell, but again, I'm also my own person too. So as one poster said, it's a nice ice-breaker if you will.

I can't rule it out because the personality descriptions of the various Zodiac signs really fit with the people I know. I don't make all my life decisions according to the Zodiac, but I do find it interesting that my current SO, with whom I have almost everything in common, from interests to beliefs, is the most compatible sign with mine. Maybe if I'd paid MORE attention to the zodiac, I wouldn't have dated some guys and married my now ex-husband.
