It sounds like he is enjoying a game of getting you upset. Really, it sounds as if he has become more of a stalker than a friend.

Sorry, I haven't read all the posts, slow internet today. Apologies if this is already said.

You need to put this guy in his place, and firmly.
Even if he doesn't like what you say. If he's a true friend, he'll respect you and your wishes.
If not, then he'll probably drift off. If he does, he wasn't a true friend, and was probably only hanging around in the hope of geting with you.

I understand you don't want to lose his friendship, nut if he's crossing your boundaries, then he's not really giving you friendship.

Make sure he knows where he stands. Get angry with him if you have to. You can be assertive and angry without being rude.
He has to know that his attentions are unwarranted, and if you skirt around the issue rather than facing up to it, he may read things into your words which aren't there.

I think the time for diplomacy is over I'm afraid.
