My wife is fine with it - a woman from work (I'm now retired) who is just that; a best friend and nothing more. I knew my wife for five years before we married and met my friend 10 or 11 years after we married. Not a problem. I mentored her on the job because she had/has such potential and we became friends in the process. Her SO doesn't object at all and neither does my wife.

I think it would be odd and a bit inappropriate in general for a married person to develop a new best friend of the opposite sex.

If the best friend had been there for years and years BEFORE the marriage, that would be different.

I think it depends upon two major factors - levels of trust and maturity.

I would agree

Only the most mature couples with a high level of respect and trust in one another can pull this off without potential problems.

You obviously fall into that category

I have one and she is a lesbian. Of course I had to make sure the Mrs knew that or big trouble.

I have no problem with that. It is all about trust.

I don't know, having a tight emotional bond with another woman would tick me off.

No! I would not be okay if she suddenly developed a "new best friendship" with a man while we are together. I may trust her but I certainly would not trust him.
