[quote=DRGirl;22735504]Interesting you said that, as I am starting the South Beach Diet phase 1 on Sunday. I am only doing phase 1 to see how my carb intake is afecting my results. My carb intake right now is super high. Dominicans are all about the rice. Wish me luck as I try to survive 2 weeks without it. Rice is like crack to me
I am starting the Atkins on Sunday, I wonder if South Beach is better.
You can do it. I'm a couple islands over (well, via your next door neighbor) and we love rice as well. On Jan. 1 I went from, I dunno, a pound or more of rice a day to a liquid diet with no rice (and damn near no carbs) at all. I am down more than 25 lbs in less than a month.
Darn!!! Kudos to you!
I don't want to lose weight unless is from my belly only but I know I can't spot reduce . I am already a size 4-6 (depending on the brand) and I really don't want to go smaller than that. Thanks for the support. I am a little afraid of losing my mind over the next two weeks, but I am determined to win my battle against the evil (in this case the rice).

I like South Beach better because after the first two weeks you are able to eat almost everything in moderation. I couldn't go without carbs for too long. I exercise a lot and need that energy.
I got this from about.com:
Counting carb grams vs. carb portions: The way carbohydrate is accounted for is different in the two diets.
Atkinsrequires counting all carbohydrate that is digestible; mostly this means carbohydrate that isn’t fiber. Daily carb intake is accounted for by counting every gram eaten.
South Beach does not limit non-starchy vegetables. Other sources of carbohydrate are accounted for by the size and number of portions. Most people would probably find this is simpler than gram counting.
I can't count stuff. That's too much work for me, that's why SB is better in my situation. Maybe you are more structured than I am.
How much did you cut on your carbs if you don't mind me asking?
I've heard people talk about not eating any complex carbs after 3pm, others say to eat them only at breakfast, and others only eat 1-2 servings a day. The information out there only confuses me.

I started out eating around 100-130 grams a day and I cut that back to around 50 a day. Now I'm at around 40-60 a day.
I eat most of my carbs in the morning.
