It doesn't hurt to ask if you really feel the need to, but don't be offended if he's not interested. At the same time, if you did go on a second date, what would you do differently than the first time so it isn't awkward and uncomfortable?

I don't think there has to be an instant "spark" (you know that typical Hollywood romance of bells/whistles/fireworks feelings), but there needs to be something there that draws you in, whether personality, or a common interest.

I don't know if I'd want a second date based on how you described the first date going, but I haven't had such an awkward first date to know that for sure.
