Would the lack of social understanding put you off?

How autistic are we talking? If you mean Asperger's Syndrome, which is under the autistic spectrum, than I suspect many on CD would be diagosed as that. Einstein, Bill Gates.etc were all believed to have AS. Who would turn down Bill Gates with his money, bad hair-cut and everything? lol

If you mean those that rock all day and drool...well they may have sex drives, but can they really have a romantic relationship with anyone?

my therapist say i have asperger's but she cannot officially diagnose me. anyways, most 'non spectrum' people bypass these types and most of the ones i seen that have autism have a hard time finding relationships and such to begin with -- unless they are lucky enough to find another autistic person.

What type and level are we talking here? Some types of autism are imperceptible to the average person with minimal contact.

Kind of like asking "Would you date a person with impaired vision?"

I've seen several psychiatrists and I've received conflicting opinions on whether I have it. I was technically diagnosed when I was 14, but I always thought I was borderline. My previous psych said I had very mild AS tendencies but my current psych doesn't think I have it. I was very shy as a 14 year old, and absorbed in my interests, which is why they believed I had AS. I have no problem with socializing apart from shyness (I know HOW to, I'm just not confident) but tend to be a bit obsessive and nerdy with facts and topics of interests, but plenty of non-AS or 'NT' (neuro-typical) folk are. Either way it's a label and means as much as you allow it to. Oh I haven't had a girlfriend yet, but again it's because I'm more of a scaredy-cat than anything else lol.

There is a very broad range of autism spectrum disorders. I work almost exclusively with kids/teens with autism, and any given class of mine is just like any class of neurotypical kids, in that some are social, some are not.

Bill Gates is a robot. I think most in society deem Asberger's as an inferior quality, so I don't see how they can stand up to dating.
