As you yourself have said, it really does just have to do with the crowd your run with, so in the end, you really ARE like the OP.
I am nothing like the OP. The OP seems to think there is some correlation between a guy owning cats and being "soft", less manly or implying some type of "gayness". I think that is ridiculous. I have lots of gay single male friends and NONE of them own cats, they own dogs. So I am NOT like the OP.

Interesting to think I am a macho guy who post macho things. That is not me. Im just a regular guy who posts here with his views ad comments on things just like you and everyone else. If you know my posting history so well, you would know that I am always accepting of any fact that any statement or belief of mine is wrong. But in this case - "Is it common for straight men to own cats as a pet?", I feel my viewpoint on this is extremely accurate. I think I know more guys who have seen UFOs or ghosts than who owns cats as pets. Im not saying its wrong or unmanly, Im just saying that it is VERY VERY uncommon among my friends and associates, and of all my years of growing up here in Los Angeles/Encino/Burbank/Sherman Oaks/Woodland Hills/Calabasas, etc. to see single guys who own cats. If its different in the midwest, south, or other flyover states, then fine, but In my world and experience, I find it to be very very very uncommon.

Well the personal experience of myself and many others here says that it's actually common for straight single guys to own cats. So I'm more inclined to say it's more the people you hang out with.

I think that 'settles' the argument.
Yep.
Though I do like that he is at least now willing to say it could just be uncommon where he lives
None of the above. Im a Stanford educated "Valley Dude" who has lived and owns (and owned) property in Burbank, Toluca Lake, Woodland Hills and Sherman Oaks - all middle to upper middle class by Los Angeles standards. Maybe it has to do with the "crowd" I am around. Most of my friends and associates (outside of work) are martial artists/fighers, video game developers/video game junkies, surfers/beach bodies, fitness/yoga enthusiusts, entertainment industry folks (actors, writers, etc) and other performing artists. But, really, I dont think it has anything at all to do with where I live.
I mean really, I cannot believe that you people think its COMMON for single guys to own cats. It really is NOT. Sure everyone could probably name one, but really, if you think of everyone you know, and of ALL those people, one or maybe two are unique in some way, you cannot say it is "common" at all.
I think you are veering off the topic..its not the point of it being 'common' for single guys to own cats, its the point of whether its an indicator or homosexuality, which is is NOT.

By any chance, are you an African American living in the inner city like our OP?
Just thinking, if you are that maybe you two just haven't seen enough of how the rest of America lives?
Because honestly, your opinions are really off base for America at large
you know what? you raise an important point, Most old school black people I have known (including my dad) maybe for cultural reasons do not seem to GET the pet thing in general. My dad growing up had pets but never even named them, they were simply known as 'dog' or 'cat' not 'sparky' or 'Mr Whiskers'. Perhaps at least back then, Black people did not bond with other animals per se. Even today, out of all the races, it seems that Black people tend to bond the least with pet animals at least in my experience. And in situations where they own pets, they tend to be Rotti's, Dobermans or Pitbulls, not more 'cuter' animals..maybe this is where the OP is coming from, not that it makes her statements any less ignorant.
I cannot believe this topic has gone on to almost 300 posts about a useless turd maker that can't tell the difference between an intruder and it's owner.

I have to say that in MY experience, many men have owned and still owned kitties and not a single one of them was any less masculine or manly in my eyes.
I DO know one football player, however, who is not a man in my eyes who owned and abused dogs. The slimeball is very definitely not man enough to own a cat.
"Useless turdmaker" - yeah, at least kitties don't eat their own crap.
