I'm late, but this would definitely be a deal breaker for me. Maybe I am old fashioned, but I always at least offer the tip.

Deal Breaker. Kick Rocks. Look how much you have already compromised your preference and your reward is someone being cheap with you on the first date. F & L (first and last date). No doubt about it. His money is probably too thinly spread between child support and ex-wife. Keep it moving.

You two are on two different pages.
(Dude could have at least offered to make you dinner or something if he knew he didn't have money for the both of you.)
