That makes no sense. The vast majority within this society are pretty ok with tipping for service. As a well established social norm, the tightwads who excuse themselves are... well tightwads.

And somehow I'd think the tightwads would be even less inclined to pay twice as much for their restaurant meals, which is what would happen if restaurants had to pay their servers at least minimum wage.

"Well established norms" entitles you to nothing. How are you going to call someone a "tight wad" because they don't feel obligated to lavish your lifestyle?
If you have a problem with your meager earnings, either get a new job, get a second job, complain to Congress, or just deal with it. Either way you flip it, it's not my problem. Don't like it? Too bad. They take enough out of my paycheck for welfare.

Or call you a tightwad. Doe these norms owe you more than me?

Either that or go out of business because patrons would refuse spend twice as much.
Anyway, that math doesn't balance out. Adding 15-20% gratuity (which some restaurants do already) would not double the cost of the meal.

I don't work in restaurants.
You call me "tightwad" yet you starve? Again who's losing out on that deal? lol
