Gentlemen of CD,

Do you want a lady who looks decent but not a prize winner by any stretch who has a great mind and can challenge you or do you want a lady who can handle things on her own while comming to you every once in awhile with something she can't handle, who otherwise keeps her mouth shut and looks damn good while doing it?

Simple question. Just give the honest answer.

I am of the opinion that men want a lady who keeps herself up and who can handle things by herself.

Others are of the opinion that looks are less important initially than brains and other things that a lady would have to offer which I will let the opposition define since I don't agree.

Men are visual creatures. I haven't seen the man yet who would pass up fillet mignon to get to corn on the cob.

I don't see the point in denying that men will take the woman who is a hot piece who can handle things by herself and otherwise keep quiet and be the pretty lady over the woman who is alright looking but not breathtaking and has a great mind or whatever else she may have to offer.

Mod cut: Orphaned.

Women like to deny and believe that a man actually cares about her mind over her body when it comes to first appearances.

I strongly disagree with that.

Others disagree with me.

I want the lad's opinions on this one.

who said a woman can't have a great mind and challenge a man AND still handle things on her own? These attributes aren't mutually exclusive, you know.

As for the great looks versus looking decent, looks fade much sooner than a great brain, so the brain with the decent looks wins out.

Darn, what a decision to make. I would prefer a woman who can be a help mate and think for herself. She doesn't have to be beautiful, but I don't want her to be an overweight ugly duckling either. Characteristics you haven't mentioned would enter into it for me. Common sense, a pleasing personality, friendly disposition, and a happy attitude would matter. I don't want or need a woman that is real brainy, because sometimes they tend to be controlling and argumentative and that will not work for me.

Generally (but not always), it's "easy on the eyes" that first gets a man's attention. After that, she needs to hold up her end of an intelligent conversation.... On many subjects, including engineering.

Then, if she has any thoughts of getting to first base, sex had better be there too.

Oh, wait.... You said "gentlemen"... Sorry, I'll back out now.

I was married in 1989, and still am. My math shows that 1989 occurred 30 years after the 1950s ended. I know that the younger generation is not marrying as frequently as previous generations, but maybe as they get a little older they may take up the practice again.

even for a shorter term relationship, why would someone want to be with a person that has little going on up top? Booooring!!

I don't like questions like this because they aren't based in reality. I don't have to choose between looks and personality, because I can choose both. If both are not available I can choose none.

Meeting a woman is not like voting for president. I'm not forced into making a choice in which of two options is the least horrible.
