I really hated to make another thread about this b/c there's already 2 going as it is. But what the heck is defined as a 'feminist?' LOL. This word is always getting tossed around -- what does it mean to you?

edit: I'm aware it depends on 'who I ask' that's why I asked what it meant to you :P

That depends entirely on who you ask. After all, what exactly constitutes a "christian"? WHICH sect or group is going to Heaven because the others all have it "wrong"? Or if not wrong, are merely misguided?

Yep -- that's Feminism, too.

A feminist to me can be a male or female who believes in equal rights regardless of gender. I personally believe it CAN be that easy.

The "feminists" that are most commonly bashed, and the ones who are usually talked about more are those who are trying to oppress the oppressors. Essentially the male gender has always been more dominant. Usually males have final say and hold "power" positions. Obviously in America this has changed in recent years, but in many other cultures this is still strongly evident.

Anyway, the "feminists" that we DONT want, are the type to claim that men are evil, or men should pay for what we did. WE didn't do anything, society has changed and continues to change for the better. Saying I OWE anything to women would be like saying I owe blacks for the slave trade. It just doesn't make sense. I did nothing.

So essentially, I look into the context of the message. I really don't have a negative view on Feminists, but when somebody makes an absurd remark surrounding the male role, I can usually assume "feminist" in a bad way.
