So, it used to be American, European, Japanese men buying mail order brides from 3rd world countries. Now Chinese men are buying brides from North Korea and Vietnam. In the comments section of the article above, there are plenty of Chinese men complaining that Chinese women have become too demanding. I was like, where did I hear this before? :-)
I'm just wondering if this is some sort of global phenomenon. As a country develops the women become more demanding and the men become more whiny.
No, I don't think it's a "global phenomenon" of women becoming more demanding. I think that they're more and more empowered as they're treated more like equals (and in some cases, rivals).
If you don't want a woman to be demanding, treat her like an equal and make sure she does the same... don't be a wuss.

The Chinese have had the one child policy since 1979. They kill their newborn daughters so they can try for a male. There has subsequently been a shortage of females since. Of course they're going to buy them, where else will they find a woman? And naturally the Chinese women will be demanding....supply and demand anyone?

I've always thought that too, but according to the CIA World Fact Book, the ratio of men to women isn't much more than it is here:
