Keep in mind contraception was not the norm prior to the 60s. Most men would be far less tolerant of a woman having another man's baby. Also abortion was illegal.
Keep in mind that women gave birth in private, with no men around, surrounded by other women. If the baby was strikingly different looking than the supposed father the child was easily killed off. Women have always found a way around these things. Don't be so naive.

I was addressing the post about double standards. I'm not sure why you brought up infanticide, I'm sure it happened and happens now and then, just another ugly part of the ugly business of being alive in this world.
Many times, they can't. I have a high libido, I've always been a horndog, lol...but one of my best friends has talked to me countless times for ideas on how to increase her sex drive, she and her hsuband only have sex a few times a year because no matter what, no matter how good she feels, or what they do, she has no desire at all. All the things that get me going I've suggested to her and her husband, and it never works, and I don't think he's the problem, I want to blame the man, hehe, but it's just not the issue.
She was a virgin till marriage, and admits now that the reason she decided to commit to that was that she had no desire anyway, and figured when the right guy came along, that her libido would wake up.
She's almost 40 and it never has. She gives her husband "permission" to look at as much porn as he needs to to keep satisfied, but the guy stays with her so kudos to him for that.
