Default Would you like to find that first boyfriend/girlfriend?

I have a friend who after 40 something years wants to find her first boyfriend
back then they were both 13 and they had a great relationship, but as teenage love goes, they parted and when in separate directions. He married and divorced she heard through the grapevine, she married, had a family and was happy and content, her husband died and suddenly she is alone, and she gets this brainstorm to try and find him, not to rekindle any romance, but to see how life treated him and if he still remembered her, her memories of him
were all positives and she wants to find him.

Is she looking for a heartache? What if he doesn't remember her, remember its over 40 yrs. And suppose he doesn't appreciate the fact that she tracked him down. I worry that this is a big mistake for both of them.

Anyone out there ever try to find their first boyfriend/girlfriend, what happened?

HMM I did on a fluke. I was emailing with an old friend whom I still keep in touch and he told me my old boyfriend (we all went to the same high school) worked where he worked!

I got the email address and said hi! We re-cooped about life and our spouses and our kids and talked about what we did for college etc. He apologized for being an idiot as a teenage boy...which was nice.

Then about 6 months later he got a new job. Part of me is convinced we bumped into each other on purpose just to "clean up" old lovers wounds.

How do you like me now,
Now that I'm on my way?
Do you still think I'm crazy
Standin here today?
I couldnt make you love me
But I always dreamed about living in your radio
How do you like me now?

One time I got on this classmates website and looked up to see if there would be anybody I knew and wanted to talk to.
I got in touch with my first boyfriends brother and we emailed each other a couple of times. I just wanted to know how he was doing.
I also found my next door neighbor that I had a little crush on and we still keep in touch by email after 3 years.
I wondered the same thing. Will these people remember me? Glad they did.

I have run into old boyfriends but never looked for one on purpose. I don't even know if I actually remember the very first one!

I think it's okay to look for an old "friend" as long as there are no expections and she let's it go if she finds him and he is uninterested.

She has to be prepared for him possibly having very little or no interest in renewing the friendship.

It would be okay as long as he's not married, it would be better to find out from a friend first to see if contacting him would be a problem.

I was just thinking about this the other day...there are two old flames I'd like to see again...one lives not all that from me...I was driving past his house a few days ago...first time in many years... and who comes walking out the side gate??!! ...him!! ...I almost lost control of my car...lol
It's been nearly 10 years that we haven't seen each other...I think about him from time to time...don't ask why I didn't stop...I think the word stalker popped in my head ...lol...so I kept going..........

The other guy is from HS...I signed up on classmates...he's on there...looking hot like Keanu Reeves as ever...*sigh*...no contact yet though...it sucks, because he lives in the state I moved from....

Default Grab your tissues, lol.

My first love was my high school sweetheart. We were together for a year and then friends for years later. I'm the type that can't just cast off people, so I always make an effort to be friends, no matter how deep my feelings are. His eventual wife and I used to team up for these fun road rallies that our circle of friends would orchestrate. I even photographed their wedding.

It was a very special year when we dated. He was very big into karate and ironically, is now a successful doctor and Aikido sensei. I would have participated in yogikarategirl's thread, because I know a lot about the egos of sensei, but it's too difficult for me. Loved the guy and he was the same deep soul that yogikarategirl describes her sensei to be.

He looked me and my husband up, years later and visited us when he was in town for a conference. I had just given birth to my daughter and looked like crap, lol.

Anyway. I attended our high school 10 year reunion all breathy about seeing him again and he didn't attend.

For our 20 year high school reunion, I was dating someone at the time who attends another major annual event and went with him; forfeiting my reunion. The reunion organizers sent out little questionnaires and compiled the answers in a book. They posted pictures of the reunion on the internet and there he was....

Anyway a couple years later, I was visiting a friend and she asked if I had seen the reunion book. I had not, so she brought hers out.

After question "What is your best memory about high school?" My first love, who has since married and had a bazillion kids answered in one word....

My first name.

Well, I just thought that was lovely.

My only regret is that we used to exchange these long philosophical letters and I kept them in a folder. I was too attached to that past and eventually, and ritualistically threw them out after a few years in my own marriage. I would love to read those letters now.

So to answer the the original question, yes I would like to find him...and have, I found his dojo website and visit the site from time to time. I've seen all his photographs from his trip to Japan etc. He has a beautiful family. But he, he doesn't know where I am at this moment.

Our 30 year reunion is in three years, lol.
