Personally it appears to be a lot of insecurity with this girl. Even if it is her friend's birthday she already had made plans with you so in my opinion there is no real reason to bring this friend along, I'm sure the friend has other friends she can go out with on her birthday. It would be okay with me if your potential had said, "It's my friend's birthday and they are going to be at ________ (insert name here), would you mind stopping for a few minutes". Then it is more of a let's have our date but drop by for a few minutes just to wish her a happy birthday but not have her along the entire evening.
This sounds odd. It's the friend's birthday, so she's bringing the friend on her date with a guy? She can't celebrate her friend's birthday with a birthday lunch, or a weekend party? Did she not know it was her own friend's birthday until a few hours ago? wtf?? Can you say, "Well, I was looking forward to a nice, private dinner with you, for our second date" ? Wow, she really put you on the spot. I dunno, man, flip a coin. Beats me! I guess the gracious thing to do would be to just go with the flow. After that, see if you're still into her, and if she's into you. I wouldn't bet on it, but let us know how it goes.
CDS610: Yes, insecurity and a good dose of narcissism (see prior threads for that).
Ruth: Yeah, she said, "It's my best friend's birthday. Is it ok if I take her?" She asked me out nearly a week ago. You'd think she would have known about it.
Sorry for the dual threads. This one gets to the point I hope:
I have posted about this woman before. She flaked on our 2nd date. She apologized for it. She asked me out last week for this Friday night (tonight). I decided to give her a 2nd chance.
Today (the day of the date) she brings up that she wants to bring her best friend because it is her Birthday.
Kind of strange to bring that up now. Do I even bother giving this a shot or call if off right now? Sounds like this gal is trying to put me in her "friend" category...??
She wants a threesome with you and her best friend. Don't forget to ask them to cook you a hot meal afterwards.
Not sure why you are bothering with this woman still. I'd never ask to bring along a friend to a 2nd date. Kind of defeats the purpose of a date, doesn't it?
Unless the idea is some "two against one" action near the end of the evening. She might want her friend to be involved in any antics going. You might be in for a pleasant treat.
