That's.....a pretty strange, psychotic little thing you did yourself.
Don't 'cha think?
Maybe just a little?
That's what I was thinking. No, you definitely do not want to let this guy know that out of spite, you casually checked a state site for information on his girlfriend after having sniffed out correct spellings, stats, etc. from her Facebook. That is very, very Swimfan.
The information that she looked up is public record. Keyword: Public
Alot of things are public record and due to the internet, the accesibility of information like that is very available.
I have done research on people before and it always works out great for me. The key is not letting them know that you have run intel on them. Knowledge is power in terms of dealing with people.
Hooked up with a flight attendant at one point that said she was divorced. Ran intel on her and she was still married: not even legally separated. Well she got the divorce that I guess she wanted when her husband checked her cell phone records and accessed her email account in the midst of the affair.
I am self employed and own a business. I run intel all of the time on other business professionals in my industry and it gives me an indication as to whether or not I want to deal with them, extend large amounts of credit to their business and/or even return a phone call prior to building a long term relationship.
Once again - it's all public record.
As far as restraining orders are concerned. Most county judges in the US give them out like candy on Halloween. I read last year in an article that there were: in 2011 over 980,000 types of restraining orders issued in the US that year (including no contact orders, anti-harrassment orders, etc) With the state of Massachusets having the highest amount per capita. Almost anyone can get one and judges do not hold finding of fact hearings before signing them, they just listent to both parties run their mouths and sign off on the order for a period of time. Respondents are not even required to attend the court date if they do not contest an order.

Yep. It's public record. She could also drive by this chick's house on a regular basis, just to check things out - after all the roads are "public" too. She ran a background check on someone else's significant other - that is nuts. If this dude wanted a background check on his girlfriend, then he could run it himself.
