Depends on your definition of expensive. Last time this came up, BMW was thrown around a lot. I drive a 2006 BMW 325i, which I inherited, but every other car around here is a BMW, or so it seems.
I'm never approached, whether I'm near my car or not, but I do feel people view me differently when they find out what I drive. I had one who could barely remember my name until he found out about the car. After that, I shot to the top of his radar. My friends also feel I should have a sense of entitlement because I drive such a nice car, but I don't-I know the whole story behind the car and it really has nothing to do with status, money, etc but rather the loss of several people in a short amount of time.
You realize how easy it is to lease a $70k car? With good credit, that only requires a $800-$1000 per month payment which really isn't that much if you make at least $75k and don't have a bunch of other expenses.
Heck, even people driving around in Ferrari's and Bentley's may not be all that wealthy as both of those can be leased for about $2500-3500 per month. Yes, that's a sizeable amount of coin, but anyone making at least $200k could probably make it happen if that's what they really wanted.
I figure at a certain point of being well off (but not wealthy) they'd realize the value in owning a car/would prefer other luxury expenses like nice vacations.
I just haven't seen it personally, whereas I've seen plenty of people who lease lower tier luxury cars. Actually, I supposed I left out the possibility of people who are very well off and could become wealthy, but instead choose to spend like crazy.
I'm getting a 2012 Mercedes this weekend. Alot of my coworkers drive a BMW or Mercedes but the girls who drive this kind of car are married. The single ones are guys. I'm a single girl. I don't want to be labeled as married because I drive a luxury car. I definitely want to be approached by guys. I currently drive a tundra truck and I have no problems getting approached. I wonder if I switch to a luxury car if that would change.

Yes. Many women who enjoy those kinds of luxuries such as driving a cool expensive car are indeed married, have rich parents, etc. But there are women out there like you who works for what they have. Enjoy!

It’s interesting how this things work. Men who show luxuries will attract women but have it the other way around and it’s just not the same. Enjoy what you work for. Congratulations on your new car.
My wife drives a BMW X5. I didn't buy it for her. End of story.
Women can be successful. She is now the bread earner.
