If a guy has choice between the 2, he's obviously going to pick the "gorgeous" woman. However....
Ive always believed Average women get more cold approached then "hot" women. Men are more confident in those situations because they believe they actually have a shot in comparison to the "hot" ones. Contrary to popular belief, most men aren't as bold as people make it seem they are

Not physcially.
If the gorgeous woman is a creep, then the less attractive woman will win every time... I cant stand a person with a crappy attitude... I don't care if it's a man or woman.........

I should have fleshed out my opinion a little better.
I need to feel something with a woman... I need that.. I'm not just about the obviousness of the hot woman...
I think that there are a lot of guys like me that see past the initial attractiveness, but there are a lot of men that don't......not praising myself... just saying.......
So, to answer you're question.... its not just the looks......

Yes. Sometimes men equate gorgeous with high maintenance (although that isn't always true). There are a lot of attractive women out there however, attitude goes a long way. I'll take a cool 6 or 7 who is in good shape over a 10 in good shape with a crappy attitude any day. That being said I have met some pretty girls who were actually pretty cool, down to earth and somewhat low maintenance, while I have met some girls who aren't that pretty who wanted the world on a silver platter and the moon on a gold one. The only way to find out what you're getting is to engage your woman of choice.

Yes. Looks are one factor, amongst many. IMO, looks matter more the less two people know each other as looks are (for the most part) readily apparent and it takes time to learn about a other qualities (personality, work ethic, career, etc.).
Every girl has tons of options. It's the nature of the dating world.
HOWEVER, a beautiful woman gets hit on constantly...so she probably has more options.
