Polite, compassionate, concise responses are the best defense against trolls.

I remember browsing the World of Warcraft forums back when I was playing that digital crack, and there was this sob story about some parents whose kid was in terminal stage of some rare cancer, and all he wanted was a nice laptop to play wow for the last few months of his life. It was very well written, a real tear-jerker, but inevitably after the first fifty page of comments that were filled with sympathy and commiseration, eventually someone came into the thread and posted a link to the EXACT same story that was made two years ago, on some other site. I too was shocked that it was an elaborate troll, but now I am no longer surprised or impressed by any internet story.
OMG some people need help. That's sick!!

There is no way this is real. I can't beleive anyone would consider this a relationship to begin with. 2 years never met? doubtful. But giving 20K to someone you've never met? Doubt it. There are some foolish people in the world, but I doubt anyone this foolish to think that someone they've never met is their girlfriend much less be foolish enough to loan that much money to someone they've never met. Smells like a troll who's fishing.

And yet with all the rules he'll still be able to start a fourth in a couple of weeks with no repercussions.

Oh but we are being so unkind.

I'm sorry but CD isn't a special school where you have to praise the kids constantly for not eating the crayons, and I'm no special ed nursemaid.

If someone is being dangerously stupid, I'm going to tell them so.

I completely agree, especially considering that this same sob story has been posted several times throughout the last month+. He/she is clearly fishing for donations, and sadly, he/she probably received it. If it didn't work, OP would be trying other means of fishing for money.
