I just give the guy credit for trying *something* different rather than following the all to well followed script of high school>college>"professional" desk jockey. We have way too many of those types now and what the world needs now are more free thinkers and artistic types. Not that a career in music is going to save the world but it's something different in a sea of sameness.
I agree. If he has talent and is pursuing it and his parents are ok with the living arrangement, where is it our right as other people to judge? He's young so he still has plenty of time to change his mind if he wants something different.
To the OP, if you cannot handle this arrangement, by all means don't waste his time. Break up with him and find something better suited for you.
That's not what the Op is about, though. It's about a guy who doesn't hold a job, and spends all night playing video games. We're talking about guys who don't believe they should have to work.
Then you are going on about a certain caricature of some slacker which the does not sound like he just has a different plan. The view someone opposite outlook and calling it a mental issue is pushing it.
If so the OP should just break it off and don't dwell on folks you don't click with.
I would agree with this but I know a couple of Type A personalities who were always that way and they never regretted it.
To type A people work is like a drug! It's like another version of sex to them. I actually have nothing wrong with workaholic types. If that's what makes them happy then so be it. But what bugs me is that we are living in times where it is suggested that EVERYONE SHOULD act like this or you are just "lazy." Type A is trying to be forced as the norm and so people are being funneled through this system and I see so many people trying to at least keep up the appearance of Type A but I'm pretty sure they aren't underneath it all. I hear so many people talking about how busy they are and saying how they have no time for anything. Um, you only get so much time on the earth. Do you really want to give so much of it to some corporation, the government, or even just plain old money?

I really hope that the OP thinks about her life as well. Being so entrenched in this system at this young age seems empty to me or at least no fun at all. I think we are forcing too many young girls into "hyper-responsibility" too young. I don't know why we do this now. When I was that age, girls would go to school and maybe even work but they all still had fun. I can't remember a single one of them worrying about marriage and all that comes along with it at 21.

This isn't a question about what "kids these days" do. It's about the OP and her "man."

Federal funding for college scholarships has sunk. It's all about loans now. Kids have to work their way through college. There always were students who worked part-time through school, but now some are having to work full-time. It's too much. And probably in some conservative parts of the country, young women are still expected to pick up a fiance in college.
OP, marriage with this one probably wouldn't work out. Even if he goes to Italy and eventually makes a success in the music business, you two still probably wouldn't be compatible. You can find a great guy who fits your approach to life more than this guy. Just my 2 cents.

What she means is that she has no idea if you two will work out or not.

No, that's not what I mean. What are you, the new Official Forum Translator? Reinterpreting people's posts?
Marriage counselors and psychologists generally say that a type A and a dreamy, impractical type, like the OP's bf, are incompatible in the long run.

I'm as much the Official Forum Translator as you are the Official Forum Seer.
