SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame says a story about Manti Te'o's girlfriend dying, which he said inspired him to play better as he helped the Fighting Irish get to the Discover BCS National Championship game, turned out to be a hoax apparently perpetrated against the linebacker.
The university issued a news release Wednesday after Deadspin.com reported it could find no record of Lennay Kekua existing.
It shows that even the famous and/or notable are capable of playing the fool when love is involved especially online.

Although.. the article I read hinted Manti Te'o might be behind the hoax himself. It says for publicity. oh well.
There's more to this story. I hope he's just the victim and not a part of the scam to get him more spotlight. If that happens, the amount of red flags he will have going into the combine will drop his draft status exponentially which effects how much he will make.

I can't imagine he was part of it - I mean, on the same day his grandmother died? He seemed really close to her and I can't imagine why he would have done it like that. He always seemed like a stand up guy in his interviews. Just... wow...
