Really? I just find it odd that you don't know that engagement rings and wedding rings are two different things - and that most women have both.

Yes really. I am not married, but If I do get married in the future, maybe I just need one ring, that will be enough for me. BUt if the dude wants to get me an engagement ring, I certainly won't say no. Yes, really. I am not contradicting you, I was only wondering why taking on a loan just to buy a piece of jewelry. thatis all.

I don't think anyone should take out a loan for a ring. I think people should get what they can afford.

I read through the posts on this thread, somebody just mentioned some dude took on a loan to get an engagement ring. I was only responding to that particular post. that is all

Some people can afford the ring, the wedding, the honeymoon, the downpayment on a house..etc.

Buy what you can afford and don't worry about what others do with their money. Maybe the purpose for them is that they like jewelry.

Yes, sometimes they are two rings not in set. A woman will typically continue to wear it on the same finger as her wedding band or switch it to her right hand.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a woman wearing two separate (not in set) rings on the same finger. Perhaps I need to pay more attention.

So, when they are two separate rings, are they often both diamond rings? I'm not used to seeing women wearing diamond rings on both hands, either. I'm used to the "traditional" type people getting a diamond ring when they're engaged, and continuing to wear the diamond ring on the same finger after they're married.

This is all rather fascinating to me. It's a glimpse into a different world.

No, a wedding ring is usually a much plainer band. It may have some inset stones but probably no solitaire. Like you said, though, the sets that fit together are becoming more prevalent.

3 months salary? dump rule for people who are gullible enough to buy into the jewelry marketing plan.

Go for the ring that best represents you love and affection on your budget. I bought the best quality 1carat ring I could afford at the time and never regretted it, and she was always thrilled with it.

No. From what I have learned, you take the engagement ring off on the day of the wedding and when you get married you place the wedding ring on. Afterwards you put back on the engagement ring.

Some people buy them as a set, the engagement ring, and the wedding bands;man and womans. The bands will normally look the same but the mans will be bigger, of course.

Other people buy them separately, but everyone I have ever known wear both rings together once they marry.
